The following article is a readable and quite interesting look at the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the perspective of today’s scientists.
The D614G strain of the virus, which the World Health Organization said was identified in February and has been circulating in Europe and the Americas, has also been found in Singapore and Malaysia. It has been characterized as ‘infectious but milder’ – a description that may not be properly presented in the following paper.
That said, the publication offers a unique look at SARS-CoV-2 through the eyes of the scientists studying it. For a scientific paper, it’s almost written in plain english and should be readable by any non-scientist. To me, the core of the presentation is a look at how tiny, tiny changes in the virus DNA can drastically change the virus. You also get an understanding of how virology has changed over the last few decades – something we should be thankful for.
